SKIVING SNACKBOX:
PUKING PASTILLES PACKAGING
Tasked to design a self-folding carton for my Digital Prepress class and having free rein on the subject matter, I leaned into a fantasy world that influenced my fascination with storytelling growing up. Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes (AKA Weasley & Weasley) is a practical joke shop from the Harry Potter series.
Inspired by the prop packaging in the films, I designed a candy box for Puking Pastilles. The goal was to create an eye-catching container looks like it belongs on the shelves of Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes -- something that embodies Fred and George Weasleys’ mischievously magical ideals, personalities, and essence.
Puking Pastilles is a magical candy intended to get students out of lessons and allow them time for leisure to do whatever they please. The orange half of the candy makes the consumer sick (providing an excuse to leave any situation), and the purple half results in sudden improvement of health.
Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes is first and foremost a joke shop, so the packaging is intended to be colorful, entertaining, and appealing to a teenage/student audience.
The packaging features hand-drawn embellishments, manipulated Victorian-style typography, and a rebranded logo for the Weasley & Weasley brand. The two hands in the logo belong to the founders, the Weasley twins, and are joined to form a W.
