REVIVAL RECORDS

"Revival Records is an independent record label where visuals, melodies, and attitude meet to put on a show. Our label is home to young musicians reviving the rock sounds of the past."

This UX/UI project for my Experience Design class involved designing a high-fidelity, responsive website for a new music label. The label had to represent 3 existing artists within a genre of my choice. I selected rock music as my genre but focused on young, modern artists who draw from glam rock influences in their sound and style -- The Lemon Twigs, Declan McKenna, and Måneskin.

WHERE ALL PLATFORM BOOTS

ARE WELCOME

Upon entering the website, I wanted to create an introduction to the record label that was as experimental and high-energy as the glam rock genre itself. What better way to do this than using motion?

I put together a reel of clips from the featured artists' music videos as a way of honoring the creative direction of each artist while giving a taste of the Revival Records atmosphere.

ROCK REVIVAL IN COLOR

The artists were assigned a unique neon hue to act as a stark pop of color accompanying the black and white palette. This rule maintained visual consistency throughout the branding while giving the website the vibrancy and boldness associated with glam rock.

TELLING THE ARTISTS' STORY

Each artist page is populated with biographies, album reviews, working links, photos, and interviews adapted into written content for the website. Using sources such as Genius and Spotify, the artists pages’ become informative hubs, telling the stories of their backgrounds and successes.

"Glam rock emerged in the 1970s, born from the likes of 50s/60s rock and roll, bubblegum pop, and science fiction. Our artists draw inspiration from glam rock era influences to reintroduce these iconic sounds and aesthetics into the rock scene today, experimenting with instrumentation, androgynous fashion, bold stage presence, and forward-looking lyrics."

A pop-up Spotify pre-save prompt was implemented on the Declan McKenna page.

I created customized spinning lyric wheels for each artist page.

All pages were also formatted as a vertical layout for mobile viewing.

I especially enjoyed working on this project because of the stylistic challenge it presented. I decided to explore Brutalism design, characterized by its rigid grid structure, monotype, and the raw yet futuristic look reminiscent of HTML. This website pushed me as a designer because I had never worked in this kind of style before. Additionally, this stylistic design choice felt appropriate for Revival Records because it is evocative of the past but is found in present-day design.
